  2nd Edition

This story was originally published as Book 2 in the Super Mega Saga. Super Mega’s 2nd Edition now contains Book 1 & 3, and Duane Earl’s story has been moved to its own series. I’ve done this so each series will flow better. The worlds are interconnected, and Duane Earl appears in both sagas.

  1

It’s shocking how quickly life can change. One minute everything’s fine. Then, WHAM! Your entire world turns upside-down.

I had an uneasy feeling in the back of my mind since I woke up. But sometimes it’s hard to tell if you should listen to that nagging feeling, or if it’s just paranoia? I didn’t have a choice either way. It wasn’t like I could stay in my rack and choose not to go out on the mission.

We all became luck freaks toward the end of the deployment. Superstitions ran high. Everyone had rituals, that if deviated from, could spell disaster. Stupid things that no sane person would ever consider relevant became the determining factor on whether you lived or died. I knew a guy that was absolutely convinced he had to put his left sock on first, or it would be bad luck. He had 13 days left until he rotated back to the world, and I was pretty sure he had stopped changing his underwear. Any change could be detrimental.

We were in the worst place in the world. Ground troops were experiencing a 60% casualty rate. We lost one out of every four birds we put in the sky. None of this made the news. As far as the government was concerned, we weren’t there. It was an extreme black-ops mission.

I just needed to get through the next 23 days, then I was going to be on a C-17 back home. No more waking up with scorpions in my boots and sand in my ass crack. No more getting shot at. No more watching good men die in pursuit of a vague objective.

I couldn’t wait to get out of there. But I didn’t know if going back home was going to be any better. I had been fighting a war there as well. The long lonely nights had gotten too much for my wife to handle. And she didn’t have too much trouble finding someone else to handle her. Namely, my best friend.

Yeah, can you believe that shit?

And I had asked the bastard to look out for her!

She filed for divorce, and I had gotten the notice a few days ago that it had been finalized.

I didn’t fight it. I gave her everything she wanted. I figured I didn’t want to be with someone who didn’t want to be with me. All I wanted was my dog. But in the end, she took Buddy anyway.

When I got home, I was going to have to start my life over. Get back into the dating pool. Learn how to reintegrate into society. But all that became a moot point when I saw the scumbag with a rocket launcher.

The staccato patter of the rotor blades thumped overhead. I pulled hard on the controls, trying to avoid the inevitable. The rocket-propelled grenade raced through the sky, spitting a stream of sparks and propellant.

I had just dropped off a squad of Marines at the LZ, and had started my ascent. The SH 70 helicopter was a new prototype, and I was among the first pilots to put it through its paces in a combat situation. The damn thing still had a new smell.

A proximity alert sounded. I didn’t need the blaring alarm to tell me trouble was headed my way. I banked the helicopter, praying the rocket would miss. But that was just wishful thinking.

Time slowed down and moved frame by frame. I felt like I was in a movie. The only thing that was missing was the soundtrack.

“Ah, shit!” I grumbled with resignation.

  This was it!

That fucking rocket was going to slam into the fuselage, and I was going to go out of this world scorched and mangled. I hoped it would be quick. A brief moment of pain, then peace.

I had mere milliseconds to contemplate the nature of my existence. It was surreal. It was like I was watching the whole thing go down from outside myself. I saw my life from birth to death. It moved by in an instant. All the good times. All the bad times. All the mistakes.

In a war zone, you have a lot of time to contemplate your own mortality. It's not something you'd want to dwell on, but we all wondered how we were going to go out. There were a million ways to die. There were a million ways to go back home as something less than what you were—a gunshot, a hand grenade, a landmine, an RPG. If I was thankful for anything, I was thankful that I wasn't ever going to drown. That had to be the worst way to go. And in this dry, arid desert, water was at a premium.

  The RPG screamed toward me.

A blinding flash filled the cockpit.

  Then there was nothing.

The swish of the rotor blades stopped. The high-pitched whine of the engine vanished. My body felt nonexistent. I had no pain. Not even the nagging soreness in my lower back.

In a bliss-like state, I moved through time and space, like particles on the wind. I felt indistinguishable from the rest of the universe.

  Was this death?

The stark white environment around me faded. I lay on my back, staring at the sky. I blinked my eyes a few times as I gazed at the heavens above. Stars flickered in the night sky. I wondered how much time had passed? It was just after dawn when the helicopter was hit.

  Did I crash land?

Was I thrown from the wreckage?

Had I been lying out in the middle of nowhere all day and part of the night?

There was something odd about the way the sky looked. It was unlike any I had ever seen before. Low on the horizon was a large planet with several glowing rings. It reminded me of Saturn, but its red color was a clear indication it wasn’t Saturn.

I was getting the distinct feeling I wasn’t on Earth anymore.

I sat up and wiped my eyes. I looked over my body and felt for injuries. No blood. Nothing hurt.

  I was fine.

I glanced around, surveying the terrain. To my right there was a large palace that looked futuristic and medieval at the same time. Tall towers vaulted into the sky. High battlements surrounded the palace.

A woman’s voice startled me from behind. “How are you feeling?”

  “Fine,” I stammered.

My eyes bulged at the sight of her luscious form. She had emerald green eyes, red hair, and creamy skin. But this was no ordinary woman. Horns spiraled out of her forehead, like an antelope. Black wings spread out behind her. Her leather bikini top desperately struggled to contain her perfectly shaped, gravity defying breasts. My eyes drifted down her flat toned stomach. She wore a black leather miniskirt with slits on both sides. It was little more than a loincloth and barely covered the holy land. A demonic tail curved out of her backside. Her sexy calves disappeared into knee high stiletto boots.

At this point, I was convinced I had died and possibly gone to hell. This devil woman was deliciously sinful. She oozed sexuality.

  “What happened?” I asked.

“I thought it was pretty clear. You were going to die. I saved you and brought you here. As such, you are forever indebted to me. I am your master, and you shall do as I command.”

A thrill pulsed through me. I’d do just about anything for a woman like that.

  2

  “Who are you?”

“My name is Ruby,” the devilish woman said.

She grabbed me and launched into the air. Her massive wings flapped, propelling us into the sky. Wind rushed through my hair as I dangled from her grasp. I felt like I was hang gliding. My worried eyes found the ground below us. A simple slip of her fingers would turn me into a grease spot from this altitude.

This woman was strong, despite her petite size.

We touched down in the courtyard of the palace. Two massive steel doors swung open. We climbed the steps and entered the main hall.

The high vaulted ceilings were reminiscent of a Gothic cathedral. Wall sconces hung on stone walls, flickering not with flames, but with an amber energy that was otherworldly. Ruby’s heels clacked against the stone tile as we strolled through the cavernous palace.

We spiraled up a staircase, and she escorted me down a long hallway full of doors. She stopped at one and pushed it open. “This is your room. The rules here are simple. You are free to roam about the grounds, but do not go beyond the palace walls.”

I arched a curious eyebrow at her. “Am I a prisoner here?”

  “It’s for your protection.”

  “What’s out there?”

“Fearsome things.” Her eyes blazed into me.

I couldn't tell if she was trying to intimidate me, or if there was really something terrible out there.

“Make yourself at home. Feel free to enjoy any of the amenities. But the other girls are off-limits.”

  “Other girls?”

“My roommates. You belong to me. The penalty for violating my rules is death.”

  I swallowed hard.

“I usually don’t allow men in my palace, but your skill set could be useful.”

Now she had me intrigued. I asked for clarification in a cocksure tone. I had a slight grin on my face. “What skill set is that?”

“Don’t flatter yourself. I’m strictly interested in you for your piloting skills.”

“You’ve got wings,” I said, dryly. What the hell did she need a pilot for?

Ruby sneered at me. “I may have wings, but I can’t travel between planets without a spaceship. There’s an old Warbird behind the palace. I need you to get it running, and I need you to fly it when necessary. If this is unacceptable to you, I am more than happy to transport you back to your dimension and let you experience your death.”

“No. That’s okay. I think this will be fine.”

“Good.” She smiled. “If you need anything else, just call for me.”

She spun around and sauntered away. Her wings absorbed into her back, and her horns disappeared into her forehead. She had the ability to transform into a demon at will.

Her hips swayed from side to side. Her ass was pert and round. I watched, mesmerized, as her tail retracted into her shapely backside. She looked like a normal female now—if you considered a smoldering hot vixen normal. On a scale of 1 to 10, she was a 22. And the whole demon thing added an element of mystery and danger that was irresistible.

My mind bubbled with questions. They would have to wait for later.

I pushed into the chamber and settled into my new space. It was luxuriously appointed. The walls were decorated with exotic art from all across the galaxy. The paint actually seemed to move on the canvas. It was like a weird acid trip.

Small sculptures stood atop pedestals. A large, full-length mirror reflected the room. The sheets on the bed were softer than any I had ever felt before. Several large windows opened to the inner courtyard. I leaned against the sill and looked out. Water shimmered in a large pool. Lounge chairs surrounded it. I felt like I had just checked into a resort hotel.

I was tired. My brief interaction with Ruby left me drained. I peeled off my fatigues, took a shower in the attached bathroom, then climbed into bed.

  I slept like a rock.

I fully expected to wake up back in the barracks and tell everyone about the crazy dream I had about a sexy-ass demon lady.

But I wasn’t back in the barracks when I woke up. The morning sun beamed through the windows. I heard the sounds of girls frolicking in the pool, sloshing and splashing.

I wiped the sleep from my eyes, pulled back the covers, and staggered to the window, buck naked. I did a double take when I saw two beauties lounging poolside. But these weren’t ordinary girls.

I had to get a closer look.

I tried to lean out the window but there was an invisible force that kept me inside. I tried moving my hand through the open window, but the force stopped it.

I moved across the room to the door and jiggled the handle. It was locked. The door wouldn’t open. I clenched my jaw. It seemed I was a prisoner after all.

I moved back to the window and gazed down at the girls. Spaghetti string bikinis stretched across curvaceous hips and bouncing breasts. Sheer fabric barely concealed perky nipples. Slim bottoms disappeared into luscious ass cheeks. One girl sunbathed nude. Oil glistened on her smooth skin. Water beaded on her slick curves, dripping down her round breasts. The smell of coconut filled the air.

She had blue hair and pointy elf ears. Her skin seemed luminous. The girl that frolicked in the pool wasn't exactly human either. She had feline features and subtle stripes across her back, reminiscent of a tiger. Her face looked normal, but she had cat ears and a furry tail.

The tigress caught a glimpse of me. She waved. “Come join us!”

All eyes fell upon me, and I got the impression that these girls hadn’t seen a man in quite some time. I could tell right away this would be trouble. The kind of trouble I liked.

“I’m kind of locked up, right now.”

“Ah, that’s too bad,” the tigress said with a pouty face.

The elf girl climbed from the lounge chair and flew into the air. She hovered just outside the window, wearing nothing but her bikini bottoms. “You must be the pilot? I’m Glow. That’s Zoe,” she said, pointing at the tigress.

“The name is Duane Earl Armstrong,” I said with a cocksure grin. “But my friends call me DE.”

I was standing there with my dick swinging, and Glow’s
eyes dropped to check out my package. She looked impressed. “Nice to meet you, DE,” Glow said.

She didn’t seem modest in the least. Her gorgeous breasts begged my eyes to stare at them. Turnabout was fair play. I happily obliged, which gave her an amused giggle. The sound of her laughter was like music to my ears.

“Trust me, the pleasure is all mine,” I said.

Zoe climbed out of the pool, and a moment later she was hovering by the window as well. I had been rescued by a demon, so two girls floating in the air outside my window didn’t seem all that odd.

“Oh, he is cute,” Zoe muttered. “It’s too bad you can’t join us?” She had a naughty twinkle in her feline eyes. Her vertical pupils looked like narrow slits. The reflective coating on her retinas glimmered. “It seems Ruby’s worried we’ll wear you out before she gets to you.” Her eyes dropped to my package for an instant. “And she’s probably right.”

I wouldn’t mind at all if these girls wore me out. It was probably a good thing I couldn’t get out of the room. I didn’t know if I had the self-restraint to resist them. And if the penalty for playing with these hotties was death, I was a dead man walking.
